Outdoor Play Practitioner. Level 2

Outdoor Play Practitioner will develop your skills and confidence in facilitating outdoor play across a range of settings.

Focussed on a holistic view of children’s play and supporting this free-play rather than ‘teaching’, this qualification will give you the underpinning knowledge and practical skills to become an advocate for play in all its forms.

The course is suitable for play-workers, teachers, early years educators, lunchtime supervisors and anyone who has the best interests of children at heart.

Completion of this course only takes two and a half days plus some structured self-directed study in between the course days. It is designed to be as practical, accessible and supportive as possible in helping you to understand and facilitate children’s play.

Content Summary:

Understanding the benefits and risks of using the outdoors as a play environment. Embracing the underlying principles and theories of play.

Learning how to take an holistic approach to implement Outdoor Play and how to get everyone ‘on board’ with your plans.

Supporting seasonal outdoor play opportunities by building specific skills and confidence in a range of areas that can be developed and enhanced in school grounds and in the local environment.

Knowing how to sustainably manage and improve outdoor play environments. Looking at ecological structures in the natural environment and identifying species in our own local natural environments.

Course duration – 2.5 days of training, plus planning and delivery of a minimum of two Outdoor Play sessions. The course must be completed within six months of the start date.

Entry Qualifications Required:

  • Aged 16 years or over.

  • Level 1 qualification or equivalent (1 GCSE).

  • Current DBS Check.

  • A suitable First Aid qualification is useful to complement this course.
