Nature-Based Activity Leader (Extended Award in Learning in the Outdoors)

Course Summary:

This is a 4-day qualification covering practical outdoor skills and nature-based activities ideal for school settings. The course includes the health and wellbeing benefits of learning outdoors, safely using hand tools, learning about natural environments, fire skills, knots, shelter building and an introduction to risk assessment.

Assessment will be carried out through tutor observation during your training days, as well as a simple workbook or online portfolio to complete after the training. This course is for busy teachers and support staff who want to deliver practical outdoor sessions.

You will have 6 months to complete this course.

Please Note - this is NOT a Forest School course and does not qualify you to deliver Forest School sessions.


Entry Requirements:

  • Aged 16 years or over

  • Level 1 qualification or equivalent (1 GCSE)

  • A suitable First Aid qualification is useful to complement this course (can be completed after training dates)

A First Aid qualification is not required to complete this course, but is strongly recommended before running any outdoor sessions.
