Guidance for First Aid Training for Forest School
Through consultation with the Health and Safety Executive, please note the follwoing:-
First Aid training needs to be appropriate for the environment you are working in and client group you are working with. We advise you conduct a First Aid training needs assessment (found on the HSE website).
- If you are a Forest School Leader working on your school site and if you have a member of staff on the school premises that has up to date First Aid at Work (3 days) training who can come to your assistance in the event of an emergency, it is highly advised that you to attend a Paediatric First Aid in Outdoor Settings course or the equivilant.
- If you are a Forest School Leader working off your school site it is sensible that you or another member of staff with you has a First Aid at Work certificate plus a Paediatric First Aid in Outdoor Settings or the equivilant.
Please note: In all cases a Forest School Leader is highly advised to have a two day Paediatric First Aid in Outdoor Settings certificate or the equivilant. Evidence of this will need to be seen for newly qualified leaders.
